Thera is completely devoted to innovate in the area of language processing through computers. It started in 1998 with a research group from the Universitat de Barcelona (CLiC), which works as a R+D center for Thera.

Because of its innovation skills and focus in quality, CLiC belongs to the Xarxa d'Excel·lència del CIDEM (CIDEM´s Excellence Network), an IT network, and Thera was created from a technological impulse group from the Universitat de Barcelona.
